A 73-year-old Moorestown man was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder by strangulation in the death of his 73-year-old wife in their home at the Moorestowne Woods Apartment complex off East Camden Avenue, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office reported on Monday.

Besides the first-degree murder charge, Gerard Slavin also was charged with second-degree aggravated assault–strangulation in the death of Linda Slavin.

"The investigation began just before 3 p.m. (Sunday) when police were called to the Slavin residence," the prosecutor's office reported. "Upon arrival, officers from the Moorestown Township Police Department found the body of Linda Slavin in the couple's bedroom." Gerard Slavin was arrested without incident.

An autopsy on Monday by the Burlington County Medical Examiner determined the woman died from strangulation.

Lead investigators in the case are Moorestown Detective Ryan Carr and prosecutor's office detectives Shawn McDonough and Katie White.
