Cherry Hill East's new principal, Daniel Finkle, addresses the school board, which hired him on Tuesday.
The Cherry Hill school board on Tuesday approved hiring Daniel Finkle as principal of Cherry Hill High School East and Christina Collazo-Franco as principal of Carusi Middle School.
Finkle is principal of Delran High School in Burlington County and Collazo-Franco is principal of Buena Regional High School in Atlantic County.
The board also voted to name Alison McCartney as principal of Woodcrest Elementary School. She is assistant principal at Rosa International Middle School in Cherry Hill.
"I am very excited about this next step," McCartney said. "It is a little bittersweet, as I am always looking for a new challenge, but I am sad to leave my current home."
New East principal Finkle told the board he will "continue to embrace the traditions at East and make it the best possible experience for our kids."
Collazo-Franco said: "I am super excited to join the internal team and, specifically, to join my (school) family at Carusi."
Each begins the new job in July and their salaries are: Finkle, $181,765; Collazo-Franco, $152,737 and McCartney, $135,221.
Christina Collazo-Franco is the new principal at Carusi Middle School.
Alison McCartney is the new principal at Woodcrest elementary.
How to spend restored state aid?
Following Gov. Phil Murphy signing legislation that will restore 45 percent, or $3.1 million, of Cherry Hill's state aid, board member Adam Greenbaum said the board's business and facilities committee will recommend how it should be spent.
Suggestions to the team during the meeting included hiring more support staff, purchasing English and language arts curriculum materials and reinstating some Alternative High School positions and improving the school's new facilities in Cherry Hill High School East. Â Â
Board member Gina Winters supported adding four elementary school sections, saying that doing so is critical "to keep our class sizes where they are right now (and) as the district grows and the population grows."
Greenbaum supported another recommendation to enhance some teaching staff salaries.
"If we do not do anything about it in the next year, we are potentially looking to be the lowest-paying school district (for certain positions). That is not a good place to be for recruiting or retention. We are certainly not looking to necessarily be the highest (paying district), but we want to be competitive," he said.
The committee will make its final recommendations during its June 11 meeting. The board then will need to vote on them.
