The existing Pristine Hand Carwash Lube & Detail Center on Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill would be converted into a Take 5 Car Wash under plans submitted to the Planning Board.

The hottest area of new development in the 70and73 area? Places to get your car washed and vacuumed.

Several new car washes have opened this year, adding to the ones already doing business along major roads, and now new entrants in the local market have plans for their own.

In Cherry Hill, the Planning Board on November 7 is scheduled to hear applications to build two car washes that, measured on a straight line, are just more than three-quarters of a mile apart.

One would be in an existing, but converted, Pristine Hand Carwash Lube & Detail Center on Haddonfield Road across from the Garden State Park Shopping Center and the other would be built at Route 70 and South Cornell Avenue after several small commercial buildings are torn down.

A plan to open a new car wash on a heavily wooded lot on Route 73 in Voorhees was to be heard by the Township zoning board on Thursday but it was moved to the November meeting. That plan estimates that 935 trees, from five inches to three feet in diameter, would be removed to make way for the wash at southbound Route 73 and Dutchtown Road.

The Voorhees wash and the one on Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill are proposed by Charlotte-based Boing US Holdco Inc., a subsidiary of publicly traded Driven Brands Holdings Inc. that states it is the world's largest local car wash chain, with 900 locations in 14 countries.

Boing also plans car washes in Delran, Gloucester Township and in Brooklawn Borough, according to legal notices filed in September by the company.

The developer for the Route 70 site in Cherry Hill is PJ Land Development LLC Farmington, New York, according to the application before the Planning Board.

The new Tidal Wave Auto Spa would occupy 3,475 square feet and have 15 free vacuum spaces, according to plans.

In August, local entrepreneur Robert Giannone opened his second Sammy's Express Car Wash on the old G Boys Garden Center property on Route 70 in Marlton.

Giannone also owns the Sammy's on Route 38 in Maple Shade and has plans to open one on Route 38 in Mount Laurel. He anticipates building in other parts of the area as well, he has told 70and73.com.

A gym was converted into a car wash earlier this year on Route 73 in Mount Laurel, just over the Evesham Line on the northbound lane.

The new and proposed new entrants are in a market with existing car washes along Route 70, Route 73 and several major roads in the region.
