A 27-year-old Mount Laurel woman last Friday was found guilty of murder in the stabbing death of her mother at the Ramblewood Village Apartments, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
Marisa Rivera was convicted in the death of Denise DeNapoli, 56, who shared the apartment with her daughter.Â
State Superior Court Judge Terrence R. Cook held a bench trial at the defendant's request and found her guilty of first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Her sentencing is scheduled for March 8.
The Mount Laurel Police Department investigation showed that DeNapoli was killed around 3:30 a.m. on September 6, 2019. When co-workers did not hear from DeNapoli, who was scheduled to work remotely that day, police conducted a wellness check.
Rivera later was taken into custody at a Route 73 hotel.
"Testimony presented at trial late last year indicated the relationship between the defendant and the victim had been steadily deteriorating," according to a news release from the prosecutor's office.
Rivera was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Rachel Conte. Lead investigators were MLPD Detective Thomas Corsanico, prosecutor's office Detective Sergeant Tim Horne and former prosecutor's office Detective Sergeant Nicholas Villano.
