The well-worn road at the intersection of Springdale and Greentree roads in Cherry Hill, looking toward Route 70. The traffic signals at the intersection will be upgraded, including pedestrian signals.

The particularly harsh winter left a battered Springdale Road north of Route 70 in Cherry Hill, but Camden County aims to make a major fix before this winter.

"It is rough," Camden County Engineer Jim Winckowski said of the 1.25-mile length of Springdale. "It was one of our hardest-hit roads this past winter, especially in terms of complaints regarding potholes."

The project is from Route 70 in the south to the Burlington County border, just north of Olney Avenue.

Camden County commissioners are scheduled to vote this week on awarding a $2.8-million contract to replace the deteriorated storm sewer, upgrade the traffic signals at Springdale and Greentree Roads and lay two inches of new asphalt.

"Our goal is to try to get it repaved by the winter," Winckowski said of the four-lane county road.

Cherry Hill Township is paying for the upgrade of traffic signals at the Springdale/Greentree intersection. They are decades old and do not have pedestrian walk signals.

The section of Springdale is heavily traveled, connecting traffic between Route 70 and Route 73, with access to Route 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike.

Winckowski said the replacement of the traffic signals at Greentree will require a detour at night, but it should last for only a few nights. The rest of the work on Springdale will be during the day with lane closures.

No change is planned in the road's traffic flow.
