The Georgia's Furs building at 249 Route 70 eastbound in Cherry Hill.

The proposed reuse of a small retail building on Route 70 in Cherry Hill is emblematic of generational change and shifting tastes.

Constructed about 70 years ago, when Cherry Hill still was Delaware Township and growing, the building first housed the Georgia's Fur Salon in 1991 when the retailer moved from a strip plaza across from Barclay Farm shopping plaza to the building that was near the now-defunct Ellisburg Circle at Route 70 and Kings Highway.

But Georgia's Fur Salon was operated by Lazaros Rassouilis and Georgia Rassoulis from 249 Route 70 East and closed its doors about a year ago. The property was sold to FJ NJ LLC early last year.

And now a sushi restaurant, specifically Oiishii Sushi, wants to move in.

Owner Frank Zheng's application to add onto the building is scheduled to be heard by the Township Planning Board at its meeting on January 21.

The building is between Kenwood and Brookmead drives.

Zoning variances are sought for maximum lot cover, open space, residential buffer, residential parking setback and non-residential parking setback, according to the Township Community Development Department review of the application.

A floor plan of the restaurant submitted to the Planning Board shows nine tables with four seats each.
