Voorhees resident Shawn Lichtfuss on Thursday was convicted in the first-degree murder of his wife, Stefanie Caraway, in 2021, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
A state Superior Court jury in Camden deliberated for about 45 minutes after the six-day trial, returning with a guilty verdict for Lichtfuss, 53, who killed Caraway, 38. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
Officers from the Voorhees Police Department on August 3, 2021 got a call from someone worried about Lichtfuss, who had sent text messages implying plans for self-harm, the prosecutor's office reported.Â
They responded to the Lichtfuss home on the 1400 block of Lincoln Drive, got no answer at the door, entered the residence and found the dead victim. Lichtfuss was not there.

Lichtfuss was found later at a parked vehicle at a Voorhees gas station and when interviewed in custody by detectives confessed to putting Caraway in a chokehold. Neck compression was the cause of death, the medical examiner ruled.
The prosecution was represented at trial by Assistant Prosecutor Anna Trenga of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit. The investigation was conducted by Sergeant Elvin Nuñez of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and now-retired Detective Chris Tomasco of the Voorhees Township Police Department.
