Burlington County Institute of Technology, Medford marks $8M expansion, new video game design lab.

A ceremony celebrating the completion of an $8 million renovation and expansion of the Burlington County Institute of Technology campus in Medford that includes a new video game design lab will be held Monday morning.

Constructon at the Hawkin Road campus included the welding and HVAC shops and the creation of the lab for the school's video game design program.

"The improvements are the first major renovations at the school since 2006 and will allow the school district to continue to modernize its programs and enroll more students," according to the Burlington County announcement.

"Improvements like the ones at the Medford campus will help students continue to excel," county Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel said in a statement. "Ultimately, they also help Burlington County's economy by keeping our county and its workforce competitive and attractive to new businesses in rapidly growing industries."

BCIT also is working on a $14 million, 39,000-square-foot expansion and renovation project at the BCIT Westampton Campus  that includes expanded classroom space, a logistics training area and large diesel engine garage.

Besides providing dedicated space for video game design, the Medford campus' new design lab is also used by the school’s Esports competition team.

Eventually, the school expects to accept 56 students into the video game design program. Now there are 17 in the program and 25 competing on the Esports team.
