Evesham, Medford, Medford Lakes, Shamong, and Tabernacle will be part of a state climate resiliency study to assess threats of wildfires, storms, heatwaves and other challenges.
"Climate change is no longer abstract or theoretical. It's now a physical reality impacting our communities and infrastructure," Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, liaison to the county Department of Resource Conservation, said in a statement.
The county is partnering with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the nonprofit Pinelands Alliance in the Burlington County Southwest Pinelands Regional Resiliency Study, according to the county announcement.
Professional planners, engineers, ecologists, designers and other experts who will be part of the study and help to create action plans will be funded by the DEP.
Besides seeking community input, the study group "will analyze climate data, impacts from past events, demographics, and environmental data," the county stated.
The municipalities and the county will be able to share in a DEP grant of up to $350,000 to support recommended actions.
