A housing project with 325 apartments — some of which are designated as affordable — and a parking garage next to the Marlton Crossing Shopping Center on Thursday night was approved unanimously by the Evesham Planning Board.
The board voted 9-0 for the plan, which is part of a Township redevelopment plan and also a component in Evesham's affordable housing obligation. Forty-nine apartments fall under the obligation, with 25 aimed at tenants with special needs and 24 purely affordable housing.
Under the plan, the Marlton Crossing Garden Offices will be demolished on the site, which is bounded by Old Marlton Pike, Centre Boulevard and Lippincott Drive.
Residents had objected to the plan at the October meeting and the Marlton Woods Homeowners Association hired land-use lawyer Jeffrey Brennan, of Baron & Brennan in Voorhees, to formally oppose the plan by Marlton Crossing Dev AMS LLC of Fort Lee.Â
"We ask that you turn it down. We don't believe that the applicant has satisfied the burden of proof," Brennan told the board. "This is going to have serious consequences on the neighborhood."
But in the end the board, saying it was abiding by Township Council's redevelopment plan for the property, approved the developer's preliminary and final major site plans, bulk variances and design waivers for the Centre Boulevard Redevelopment Area.
The developer's application had been continued from the October Planning Board meeting.
