Cherry Hill, Evesham/Marlton, Medford, Medford Lakes, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Voorhees and elsewhere near the iconic state highways of Routes 70 and 73.
Cherry Hill Police Capt. John Ostermueller, a 21-year veteran of the Township force, will become police chief on Wednesday, according to an announcement late Monday from Mayor David Fleisher.
Ostermueller, whose appointment was confirmed at Monday's Township Council meeting, succeeds Chief Robert Kempf, who retires today, December 31, after 26 years with the department.
The new chief "has the experience and vision to lead the Cherry Hill Police Department into the future,” Fleisher said in a statement. “He shares my commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe, and operating with efficiency, professionalism and accountability. I look forward to working with John to ensure our department continues to deliver for our residents."
Chief Ostermueller's background, according to the announcement:
Joined the department in 2003 as a patrol officer
Most recently served as chief administrative officer of the Police Department, which has 136 full-time law enforcement officers out of a total of 175 full- and part-time employees
Holds a B.S. degree in criminal justice from Richard Stockton College and a M.A. degree in human resource management, training and supervision from Seton Hall University
Graduated from the 2004 class of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia
