A major expansion plan for the construction of a four-story patient tower at Virtua Mount Holly Hospital is scheduled to go before the Mount Holly Planning Board on Monday, September 15.
The 137,000-square-foot building would house 64 private beds and 10 operating rooms.
Expanding on northbound Madison Avenue would make way for all private rooms at the hospital, according to the application from applicant Virtua-Memorial Hospital Burlington County Inc.
"The new addition will provide private rooms for patients in the new tower and will enable transition of existing facilities to private rooms as well," the Planning Board application states.
The overall count of patient beds for the complete facility will remain the same, however Virtua plans to apply to the state to eventually add 22 beds, according to the application.
Other parts of the project include proposed parking improvements, removal of several existing buildings on the campus and extending and widening Greenwood Avenue.
Staging area for construction will be at 27 Cedar Street on Virtua-owned property.
Virtua is seeking preliminary and major site plan approval, major subdivision approval, consolidation of 86 existing lots into three and variances. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Mount Holly Firehouse, 17 Pine Street.
The project is a permitted use in the Township's new Health and Life Sciences District, which was approved by Township Council in May. The amended zoning law will "lay the foundations for expansion and improvement of the hospital and medical facilities while retaining Mount Holly’s small-town, pedestrian-oriented, neighborhood environment and recognizing adjacent residential areas," according to the ordinance approved by Council.
