The McDonald's in Cherry Hill on Route 70 near the former Ellisburg Circle at Kings Highway has served burgers and fries to generations of area residents since its grand opening in November 1969.
About 23 years ago, the old restaurant that once was adorned with giant golden arches was demolished and a new 4,089-square-foot McDonald's was built to keep up with the times.
Now McDonald's USA has applied to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for an upgrade common at other fast-food outlets: dual drive-through lines.
Drive-through restaurants are a "conditional use" for the site. The zoning law also states that drive-through windows and stacking lanes should be screened from streets, but that is not the case, according to a review letter from the zoning board's engineering firm, Environmental Resolutions Inc.
The application is scheduled to be heard by the board at the May 18 meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. with a caucus followed by hearings at 7:30.
