Improvements are coming to Atco Lake Park in Waterford Township.

Camden County and local officials on Thursday announced extensive construction at the 77-acre park, which was purchased by the county using Open Space Trust Fund money in 2008. The lake itself covers more than 35 acres.

"Atco Lake Park is a hidden gem that offers spectacular views, beautiful trails, and abundant wildlife," County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Camden County Parks Department, said in a statement. "This is another great example of park enhancements that will provide greater recreation access and opportunities for residents and visitors."

Joining Nash in making the announcement were Robert Doney, Waterford Township mayor, and Thomas Giangiulio Jr., the deputy mayor.

The Atco Lake Park improvement project includes, according to the county:

  • Demolition of the existing parking area and Vineyard Road connection to White Horse Pike.
  • Removal of existing guiderails, concrete pads, concrete islands, light bases, signage and landscaping.
  • Construction of a new asphalt parking lot and cul-de-sac.
  • Construction of White Horse Pike roadway improvements including new asphalt shoulder, curb and striping.
  • Construction of new concrete sidewalks and stone driveways for lake access.
