Responding to "unacceptable lines and wait times reported at many polling locations" in the November election, Burlington County officials on Wednesday announced they are hiring an Essex County law firm as special independent counsel to conduct a review.

Connell Foley LLP of Roseland will scrutinize all aspects of the 2024 election, including the deployment of new voting machines, the locations and makeup of voting districts and poll worker training and management, according to the county announcement. A report with findings and recommendations will be given to the Burlington County Board of Commissioners.

"Burlington county residents deserve accountability and appropriate action to ensure the 2024 election failures are not repeated, and our Board is committed to making sure that occurs," Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson said in a statement. "Appointing Connell Foley to conduct this review will provide our board and residents with an impartial assessment of what went wrong and actionable recommendations on improvements."
