From Mavis' application to the Mount Laurel Zoning Board of Adjustment
UPDATE: This was postponed from the Wednesday, September 3 meeting by request of the applicant.
Mavis Tire Supply LLC, the national discount tire and automotive service chain with several South Jersey locations, plans to build a store in the Towne Square Shopping Center on Union Mill Road in Mount Laurel.Â
The 6,952-square-foot service center would be constructed on the site of the former Liberty Bell Bank at Union Mill Road and Morning Glory Drive, according to the company's application to the Mount Laurel Zoning Board of Adjustment. Mavis, established in 1949, operates more than 1,400 stores.
Zoning board members are scheduled to hear Mavis' request for a use variance at the meeting next Wednesday, September 3 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building Court Room, 750 Centerton Road.Â
An automotive service center is not a permitted use, according to Township zoning regulations. Mavis also has asked for approval for 23 parking spaces when 73 spaces are required, a larger-than-allowed freestanding sign and other zoning variances.
Mavis would occupy 1,482 square feet of retail space and the balance would be for eight service bays, according to the company's filing. A traffic impact study, by Dynamic Traffic of Marlton, estimates that the Mavis center would result in less traffic than that formerly generated by the bank.
The Towne Square Shopping Center, which includes a ShopRite grocery store, is surrounded by housing developments.
The former bank building, which would have been demolished to make way for a Mavis Discount Tire store.
