Comings & Goings Week of August 5, 2024 - 02.jpg

Nearly 21 years ago, then-University of Pennsylvania student Seth Berkowitz came up with the perfect remedy for being unable to sleep: cookies.

"He was up late with his friends, playing video games, studying and eating a lot of pizza," said Catharine Burns, senior marketing activations manager of Insomnia Cookies, the business Berkowitz started soon after that sleepless night. "He had a sweet tooth, so he baked some cookies, sold them on campus and things really caught on."

Berkowitz may have received his higher education in nearby Philadelphia, but according to its website, this is the first Insomnia Cookies store in South Jersey.

"We are always trying to find the right location," Burns said, adding that Cherry Hill's proximity to Berkowitz's college town of Philadelphia played a part in picking the spot for the store. "Now is the time, we found the right location and we are excited to be open here."

Insomnia Cookies is at 1006 Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill.
